I was wondering if this was a way to make it easier to get rid of cops from the job? Simply refuse to renew their 'policing licence'. A sneaky back way of cutting numbers.
But we already have the UPP system in place for dealing with unsatisfactory performance. Very few, if any have been kicked out because most people switch on and start performing to an acceptable standard when UPP is started for laziness. You'd be a muppet not to wake up and smell the coffee here!

I mentioned this on the FB group I set up when the riots were going on and one thing one guy pointed out is when nurses get their license they can practice anywhere in the country for any NHS trust, Police cant just drift between forces!

Thats not strictly true; nurses have to apply for and meet the minimum requirements for any jobs they go for. It is true that their qualification (RGN / RN / RM etc) is nationally accepted, but then so is Home Office approved police training........prior to the recent cutbacks it was fairly straightforward to transfer forces....I believe there were quite a few members here who have done so.....SgtAngel, Devil etc.....

As ACPO will be subsumed into the new body and disappear as an influence in its own right, then surely that's all for the good. Development of future policing policy will be more open to influence by operating personnel, not dictated by grandfathers in fake uniforms sporting shiny sheriffs badges.

Fake uniforms? Ah, the Hugh Orde thing rears its head again. The uniform of the Metropolitan Police isn't a fake uniform. It may be outdated and uncomfortable, but it isn't fake.

I'm very easily pleased, BB.... But we can't hijack another thread with "black shirts" comments.
I can't do better than the officer who recently described our new shirts as "string vests with sleeves and collars" on a recent forum. Needless to say the Commish didn't share his view........

Given your obvious interest in the frivolous, why not start a fashion thread?
How about some serious comment on this new policing body? What will its role be?

Oooooo beg pardon zebedee.... I'll consider myself chastised. Sorry if me and my friends strayed off topic and offended you. Can we all get back to the subject please? Thank you. Wind it in a bit, pal... You're new round these parts. You'll get used to us. If you stick around that long.

I'm interested in keeping the peace, keeping down genuine crime and keeping our values as liberal as possible. Sometimes that means disagreeing with some of the things you do. This new police body is an interesting development. I hope it can reassert and support the personal nature of police powers rather than become a quango-like dictatorial organisation. Like with M.P's expenses, illegal 'phone hacking practices of the press and the unhealthy relationships between individuals in government and the Murdoch organisation, policing probably needs a good clear out too. I think the 'phone hacking scandal proves that as it couldn't have gone on without covert police support for the practice.
