Buy some good shoes?

The most important qualities are to be approachable and have can-do porblem solving attitude.  It may not be amazingly quantifiable, but when you see things o nthe news try and paln what you would do,  how you would speak to that person.  They won't want a fully trainied PCSO at the interview, but they will want someone with the raw qualities they are looking for.

I am just awaiting a start date for Thames Valley as a PCSO.

In preparation for the job, I actually went out into the community and joined workgroups for example (voluntary work at the local school), joined a committee to reduce traffic in the village. etc etc.  Try and show yourself as someone that becomes actively involved in the community and are proactive in achieving goals...

When filling out the application form, try to include the core competancies, and do this if you can at the interview also.  To be honest, I didn't think I did very well at interview, but they seemed to think so.  I came out thinking shouldn't have said that or this, but I was totally honest and to the point.

Good luck
