I am thinking of applying to transfer to M.O.D Police from a Home Office Force.
Does anyone have any opinions / information on this ?
I would like to know if my current pension is transferable and is the M.O.D Police pension just as good ?
Also, as a potential transfer well out of the 2yr probation period, will M.O.D Police endeavour to post me near to home ?

I would gratefully appreciate any info on this.

A mate has just transfered with 30 years service. He gets his police pension lump sum (about £85k), police pension, equal pay for what he is on now and housing allowance. Total per year is over £55k.

I believe they are only accepting transferees to Aldermaston at the moment.

Hangman your mate has an impressive income.I have heard that M.O.D Police pension is an 11% contribution so i assume that this pension is not to different to that of a Home Office pension ?

There is currently a awaiting list of up to a year for the MDP. If you are prepared to go to Aldermaston you can jump the que. As for posting you close to home , well you can only go where there are vacancies, and there are a number of locations throughout the UK where there is no MDP presence at all.  Many MOD establishments are not covered. As for the pensions, you should be able to take it with you , the MDP is linked to the civil service so its slightly different as we can retire at 60 so we dont pay as much as 11%.
