Hey All.

Its been a while since I posted on here, lots happened over the past 12 months.

Anyways, I wont digress!

I am completing my applicaton for a PCSO for one of my local forces.

Now, I am usually very good at completing forms, but I really really want this job and so my mind isn't working as well as it should! Smiley

I have to complete a "Personal Statement" the guide for completing it states:

"Please state why you consider yourself suitable for this post and why you are applying for it.

You must relate your comments to the essential and desirable criteria in the person specification and job description. Where they are relevant to the post remember to include skills and achievements gained at home and elsewhere, as well as work experience. This may include details of holiday/weekend jobs or voluntary/unpaid work you have undertaken."

Easy enough .... not for me it isn't!

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice or some examples of what I could list. Nothing specific, just some general pointers.

I have the criteria document, which lists requirements, and obviously is a starting place, I just dont know how to link the two together.

Anyway, I am rambling .... any help is appreciated!

Thanks

My advice is to include relevant real life examples and keep things simple - they are looking for good, honest, reliable people, not fantastic story tellers.

Have you every had to take responsibility? Been put in a position of trust?  Gone out of your way to do something for someone? Managed your time well?

Look at things such as your interpersonal skills - communication, customer service type examples etc.

Give examples of helping people, especially on occasions where you have gone above and beyond.

Are you self motivated? Able to work with initiative? Minimum supervision? Give examples of each one.

If you're really stuck, why not ask Beechy1 (see the opinion of PCSO thread!).  They appear to be an authoritive knowledge on PCSOs  :-?

Good luck with your application.
